A player of Marvel Rivals has discovered a rare Silent Hill nod tucked away in the newly launched Season 1 Darkhold battle pass of the hero shooter. Interestingly, this time it wasn’t Agatha pulling the strings. The team behind Marvel Rivals has skillfully integrated cherished Marvel stories into the gameplay, and the regular updates have been plentiful, bringing exciting new content to this live-service game.
Marvel Rivals made its exciting debut in December 2024 as a free-to-play game, featuring 35 characters right from the start, such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch. The story kicks off with Doctor Doom getting tangled in the timestream after encountering his 2099 version, leading to the emergence of new worlds where multiversal heroes and villains can clash. Recently, Marvel Rivals achieved a record number of players on Steam, thanks to the launch of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls, which brought in the Fantastic Four, new maps like Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, and a fresh Doom Match mode.
A Reddit user named FountDooku shared some in-game screenshots on the Silent Hill subreddit, highlighting the Darkhold collectible from the Season 1 battle pass of Marvel Rivals. This battle pass, which debuted on January 10, features a variety of new skins, sprays, emotes, and rewards, including 600 Lattice and 600 Units. Notably, one of the Darkhold pages showcases the Halo of the Sun mark, a nod to Konami’s Silent Hill series. This symbol represents the deity worshipped by the cult that shrouds the town in mystery, and both gaming communities were pleasantly surprised by this connection.
Marvel Rivals Player Discovers Halo of the Sun Silent Hill Reference
Marvel’s dark grimoire, known as the Darkhold, is a powerful collection of sinister spells compiled by the Elder God Chthon. This artifact has become a key element in the Disney Plus series WandaVision and the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The game Marvel’s Midnight Suns explored the Darkhold’s backstory even further, leading fans to draw intriguing parallels between the book and the Silent Hill franchise due to a reference in the shooter. Comic enthusiasts found the idea of Silent Hill being part of the Marvel universe surprisingly fitting, with one theory suggesting that WandaVision’s hex represents a version of Silent Hill for those who prefer to avoid confronting their issues. Additionally, some Reddit users have noted nods to Doom and Fullmetal Alchemist within the Darkhold.
NetEase Games has been busy rolling out new content for the hero shooter lately, and there are rumors of five more Marvel Rivals characters making their way into the game. Among these exciting additions are Professor X and Colossus, well-known heroes from the X-Men universe. However, details about when they will be released are still under wraps.
